Maintaining Balance: Tips for Better Stability as You Age

There is a common misconception that balance slowly deteriorates with age and there is nothing to do about it. People just accept it. They stop doing the things they love because of fear of falls and injuries.

It is a myth!
In reality, balance is a skill that can be improved on at any age.

Does the fear of losing your balance interfere with some of your favorite activities ---
Like playing with the kids, making travel plans, joining your friends for a walk, just moving around your home and community, or trying new things?

What if you could actually learn easy at-home practices that will improve your balance and give you the confidence to do all those activities you love? What if you could enjoy your life to the fullest?

Improving your balance is achievable through practice. A quality yoga session consistently will always include poses that challenge your balance.  Yoga is a fun way to get total body movement and then stillness, find your strength and stability, and improve your balancing skills.

Below are three easy yoga poses you can do at home to improve your balance.

1- Tree Pose - this is one of the most well-known poses in yoga. I love teaching it because there are so many variations.  Great for beginners and many modifications to keep challenging yourself.

2. Flamingo Pose - Another very basic yoga pose.  It will bring attention to your posture and how that affects your balance.  It is a great pose to practice anytime, anywhere.  No one will even notice you are doing it. (Also known as the stand-in-line pose 🙂

3. Heel to Toe Walk.  I like this one because it is a moving balance pose. You just put one foot in front of the other, then go backwards. It is not as simple as it sounds.  It requires some coordination. Doing it will stimulate your muscles and your mind.

I have created a video tutorial of these poses.
